VALLEY OF THE WINDMILLS 2001 day and night (proposed)

LED lights, wind, steel, aluminum, 8’ diameter x 50’0” highest

Commissioned by the SF Arts Commission to create a gateway into the City, at Visitacion Valley / Little Hollywood, for the Third Street MUNI Light Rail System. This area of the city was known at the Valley of the Windmills, because in the 1800’s many of the farms used wind power to pump water for fields. The design of a wind turbine has been elaborated to fit within the 8’ wide traffic median.
